What Is My IP

This is the address websites see when you visit them. It belongs to your internet provider, VPN or mobile network, not to your device.

Public and private addresses

Your router shares one public address between every device at home. Inside your network, each device has a private address, usually starting with 192.168., 10. or 172.16. to 172.31.. Websites only ever see the public one, which is what this page shows.

Why your IP address changes

Most home and mobile connections get an address from a pool, and it can change when the router restarts or after a set time. If you need an address that stays the same, for example to allow it through a server firewall, ask your provider for a static IP.

IPv4 and IPv6

If your provider supports IPv6, your device may use it for sites that support it too, and you will see an IPv6 address here. You may have an IPv4 address as well, used for sites that do not. This page shows whichever one your browser used to reach us.

Get your IP from the command line

Shell
curl https://noshost.com/ip

This returns just the address as plain text, which is handy in scripts and on servers without a browser.

Questions

Why does the location look wrong?

IP location databases map address blocks to the place the network is registered or routed from. Mobile networks, VPNs and some providers route traffic through a city far from you. Your address does not reveal your street or home.

Does a VPN change this address?

Yes. With a VPN on, sites see the VPN server's address instead of yours. Reload this page with the VPN on and off to check it is working.

Do you store my IP address?

We show it to you and do not save it with this check. The privacy page explains what the server keeps in general.
