Which DNS tool do you need?

You changed a record and nothing happened

Start with the DNS Lookup set to ask the domain's own nameservers, so you see the record as it is now rather than a cached copy. If it shows the new value, the DNS Propagation Checker shows which public resolvers still have the old one cached, and for how long. The guide on DNS changes not showing up covers the rest.

You need to know who controls a domain

The WHOIS Lookup shows the registrar, the nameservers and the status codes that say whether a domain is locked or has a problem. Personal contact details are usually hidden for privacy, so the registrar's abuse contact is often the most useful thing it gives you.

You are worried about losing a domain

Domains that expire stop working within days, taking the website and email with them. The Domain Expiry Checker shows how many days a domain has left and flags status problems such as a domain on hold. Turn on auto-renew at your registrar for anything that matters.
